The ribbon has been cut at West Caldwell, NJ-based continuing care retirement community (CCRC) Crane's Mill's new addition, Creekside Independent Living Residence. The community now offers 10 cottages and 66 new apartments for active adults seeking independent living.
The newly expanded Crane's Mill is a program of Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSM/NJ), and marks the second building collaboration between the nonprofit and Union, NJ-based construction firm Del-Sano Contracting Corp. Del Sano's focus on independence lay at the forefront of the project, which began in 2008. The firm, along with Voorhees, NJ- architectural team Kanalstein Danton Associates P.A, insisted on playing up Creekside's active adult angle. "This project is unique insofar as it has been painstakingly designed and constructed to evoke a familiar and 'homey' feel for these seniors as they transition out of their homes of many years into a new phase of retirement living," Del-Sano Founder and CEO Angelo Del Russo tells HSR.
Detail reigned over the community' construction, as Del-Sano added touches such as a new dining area known as the "Country Kitchen," featuring large, daylight windows new dining addition surrounded by large daylight windows, and a high tray ceiling. The community also features life-enrichment programs as well as game rooms, a library, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, computer rooms, a woodworking shop, and an auditorium.
Del-Sano, a member of the member of the U.S. Green Building Council, implemented its signature eco-friendly touches throughout Creekside. The project includes an 118,550-sqaure-foot, wood framed structure built from prefabricated engineered panels, as well as a high-efficiency heating and cooling system powered by water source heat pumps. The entire campus has a fiber optic backbone with a wireless resident monitoring system.
The Crane's Mill expansion also includes a revitalized assisted living parlor and dementia courtyard.
